We also got a small black plastic covering type thing that covers the white wire between tv and ceiling (as wallpaper is dark) The extension kit and sockets are screwed to the wall behind the tv. We purchased a 10 meter power cable extension kit from B&Q, that runs from the main wall socket to the corner of the wall, up the corner of the wall to the ceiling, along the ceiling to the middle of tv and then down behind the middle of the tv.

On that is the sky box, the Wii, the Xbox, and dvd player, with some ornaments. We have a black floating shelf the same width as tv (Its a 42" tv so it's quite a wide shelf) This is about 10-12 inches underneath the tv.
